Elliot Ackerman is a decorated veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and a former White House Fellow whose debut novel, Green on Blue, will be published in February. Inspired by Ackerman’s experiences embedded with tribal armies in Afghanistan, Green on Blue is told from the perspective of Aziz, an Afghan orphan recruited by a US-funded militia.

A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, he spent eight years as a CIA Paramilitary Officer and a Marine Corps Special Operations Officer. Ackerman earned a Silver Star and Purple Heart for his role leading a platoon in the 2004 Battle of Fallujah and a Bronze Star for Valor in Afghanistan in 2008. His fiction and essays have appeared in the New Yorker and the Atlantic.

Ben Fountain, award-winning author of Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, will share insights and moderate the conversation.
