Avant Chamber Ballet’s artistic director, Katie Cooper and music director David Cooper will present Romance and Ragtime. The performance will mark a new level of national relevance for the company and maturity of the artists with the company premiere of Christopher Wheeldon’s Morphoses, which has only been performed by New York City Ballet and Washington Ballet in the past. Wheeldon is well known as one of the most important living ballet choreographers and has received popular acclaim through his production of An American in Paris.

Also on the program are three world premieres by Katie Cooper and Women’s Choreography Project commission winner Fernanda Oliveira. Oliveira is a Brazilian dancer with the Colorado Ballet and was selected from 50 international applications to create her new work, Homebound, with music from the Australian string quartet band FourPlay. Cooper’s new ballets will be The Seasons with music by Vivaldi and closing the evening is Ragtime with music by Scott Joplin.

The new Family Saturdays Series continue on the afternoon of February 23 with an engaging and family-friendly one-hour performance designed to introduce dance and live music.
