A man becomes obsessed with a tropical species in an aquarium until the obsession takes him somewhere unexpected... A girl spends her summer vacation in a country house where a tiger roams...  A man borrows a young woman’s apartment and suddenly begins vomiting rabbits... Who has not dreamed of discovering the inner works, the underlying structure that lurks beneath a story’s mysterious surface?

The event, presented by Dr. René Prieto, will explore the narrative strategies deployed in 10 mesmerizing short stories by Argentine author and polymath, Julio Cortázar. Approaching these works from the perspective of psychoanalysis, students in this class will have an opportunity to peek behind the facade shrouding the meaning of this author’s richly allusive and often misunderstood scenarios.
