, Lewis Birch is having trouble. For one, he’s got writer’s block. His work-life can at best be described as unfulfilling. And his ex-wife situation isn’t the best. What’s a guy to do to change his luck? Take a family vacation! And so the washed-up history professor takes his begrudging teenage kids, Zoe and Jack, on a road trip to a conference in hopes of putting his career back on track. Their sojourn takes a detour when Lewis’s mother passes away and his estranged father, Stanley, goes AWOL on a historical reenactment of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Lewis is forced to make a family detour, and the family finds themselves on a journey of discovery and connection as they make their own passage west.
