Maverick Theatre Company presents MAVPLAYS 2017: Endgame
Hidden away inside a dilapidated room are the last whispers of human life. The petulant Hamm is confined to his chair; Clov, the begrudgingly faithful servant cannot sit; and Hamm’s legless parents, Nell and Nagg, have been stuffed into trashcans. Endgame gets its title from a final stage in chess. In this endgame, there is a clear winner already defined, but the players are forced to finish out the game despite knowing the ending’s unavoidable outcome. Sensing that their own final stages are in effect, the eccentric four are left with the task of finding meaning, despite the harshness that surrounds them. Moments of joy and humor can still be found in this seemingly bleak world because nothing is funnier than unhappiness.
