The Metrocare Auxiliary, a group of 168 volunteers, will host the annual Meal for the Minds luncheon, which includes an Edible Auction featuring sweet treats from Dallas’ top pastry chefs, bakeries and well-known eateries. The luncheon also features an art sale of work by Art Focus XC, an elite group of juried Dallas artists.

The keynote speaker will be Carrie Fisher, who became a cultural icon playing Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy. The actress and writer is the daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher.

The 2015 Meal for the Minds annual luncheon will focus on bipolar disorder. In Dallas County, there are an estimated 62,000 individuals living with bipolar disorder. Metrocare currently treats more than 12,400 individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder each year. The need for such care in our community is pressing. Over the next couple of years, Metrocare will work strategically to expand its capacity to serve those with mental illness through public/private partnerships, training and research, and opening new centers in areas of greatest need.
