Ro2 Art will present “Intimate Oddness,” a solo exhibition featuring new works by artist Xiao Lu Liu.

Xiao Lu Liu creates surrealist images exploring the struggles of forming personal identity. Using elements and symbols from both traditional and modern Chinese culture as codes to deliver her narratives, Xiao seeks to challenge established beliefs about children and the practice of identity construction upon them since early childhood. Born in China and eventually moving to the United States in 2007, Xiao uses her lens of contemporary Chinese culture to form the ideas behind her satirical themes. Her work displays images of familiarity, altered in unnatural ways in an attempt to explore conscious connection and the essential components that make us human.

Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be in view through May 14.
