Also titled The Mistakes of a Night, Oliver Goldsmith’s comedy of manners is a wild romp in the lives of a family and their sordid adventures. Mr. Hardcastle, loving father of Kate, has arranged for his daughter to meet Charles Marlow, the son of a wealthy Londoner, hoping the two will hit it off and marry. Unfortunately, Marlow is hopelessly tongue-tied and nervous around upper-class women yet surprisingly charming and bawdy when with the working class. Clever Kate, smitten with Marlow, learns of this and disguises herself as a maid in order to make Marlow feel at ease so he will woo her. Therefore, she stoops to conquer, and hilarity ensues as Marlow begins to figure out the elaborate rouse to which he has fallen prey.

Shakespeare Dallas and the North Texas Food Bank will team up for a special performance of She Stoops to Conquer on Wednesday, June 29. Admission will be free for anyone bringing a suggested donation of four cans of food. Each day, the North Texas Food Bank provides access to 170,000 meals for hungry children, seniors and families through a network of feeding programs and Partner Agencies.
