Council members will have the opportunity to hear a man who was a real “top spy,” Sir Richard Dearlove, the Chief of MI6, Great Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service, from 1999 until he retired in 2004.

A respected member of the clandestine community, he has been in the headlines in recent months for his comments on the state of Europe, Donald Trump and the Russians. In April, the experienced international analyst said terrorism is manageable in the United Kingdom.

This native of Gorran Haven in Cornwall was educated in England and Connecticut before attending Queen’s College at Cambridge. His MI6 career began in 1966 and he was posted to Nairobi in 1968. Then, after positons in Prague, Paris and Geneva, he was appointed head of MI6’s Washington station in 1991, director of personnel and administration in 1993 and operations director in 1994.
