The Meridian Room (closed)
The Meridian Room across from Fair Park has that relaxed neighborhood vibe that belies just how cool this place can be. Of course, this all depends on your opinion of hipsters – assuming such creatures even exist. But the bar itself has a quality draft beer selection, cheap but sophisticated cocktails and a whiskey menu that features a handful of 12-year-olds that should be more than $7.50. But they aren’t, so if the idea of a good drink near Fair Park interests you, then Meridian Room is your destination. Food runs the gamut from all manner of fries, including Portobello and sweet potato; cheese plates; and sandwiches like Guinness steak or Cuban.
Meridian Room is a destination for Sunday brunch, although the menu is little more than a few versions of eggs Benedict, pancakes and migas. But we suspect this is a brunch hot spot because of $2.50 Champagne cocktails and $4 Bloody Marys from noon-3 pm.
