African American Museum
The African American Museum pays tribute to the unique African American experience in the United States and the Southwest, from the building itself, constructed in the shape of a cross, with window designs based on a culturally significant statue in Mali, to the permanent collection of art and artifacts safeguarded within. The four galleries display art, artifacts and significant historical documents from the museum’s permanent collection and from temporary, visiting exhibits. The museum also houses a research library with historic archives, and it boasts one of the largest collections of African American folk art in the United States.
In addition to regular exhibits in its four galleries, the African American Museum hosts a spring lecture series and an annual gala and silent auction. Visit the website for details on these and other events.
