This unpretentious gallery presents a range of work in an assortment of mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture and works on paper from contemporary artists who are just beginning their careers as well as established artists who are starting to gain recognition. You may walk in to find Carrie Marill’s bold, gouache bison with solemn eyes or her farm chicken with an all-too-knowing expression, or your eyes may wander over to the paper patchwork of Susie Phillips, whose off-kilter, quilt-like collages are reminiscent of Matisse. The spacious Conduit Gallery presents three exhibitions at once.
Owner and director Nancy Whitenack had no formal art training when she opened Conduit in 1984. In 2001, the gallery moved from its original location in Deep Ellum to the Design District, where it continues to prosper.
