Fair Park

Home of the State Fair of Texas

We like things big in Texas, and the 277-acre Fair Park is the world’s largest collection of art deco buildings, art and sculpture. Built in 1936 for the Texas Centennial Exhibition, Fair Park has one other claim to fame: It’s the only intact and unaltered pre-1950s word fair site remaining in the United States. Fair Park hosts the State Fair of Texas annually, and, not surprisingly, the Texas Star Ferris wheel, which soars 20 stories high, is the largest Ferris wheel in North America. In addition to the many festivals, events and concerts held here each year, Fair Park has plenty of year-round attractions, including the Texas Discovery Gardens and African American Museum, plus performance venues like Gexa Entergy Pavilion and the Musical Hall at Fair Park. Although the gates are closed around 10 pm each night, Fair Park actually is open 24 hours a day. You need only show your ID at the gate to enter the park after 10 pm Fair Park also is right on the DART Green Line. When there's not an event going on, entry and parking are free.
