Stroll through Texas Discovery Gardens in Fair Park, and you can learn a thing or two about organic gardening. In fact, it’s the first public garden in the state of Texas to be certified organic by the Texas Organic Research Center. The mission: to teach effective ways to restore, conserve and preserve nature in the urban environment. Wander around the scent garden, visit the native wildlife pond or see native plants in their non-hybridized forms in the heirloom garden. But the big deal here is the butterfly garden, fluttering with delicate, colorful butterflies perched on exquisite flower petals. The insect display in the lobby outside the butterfly garden captivates young naturists.

Texas Discovery Gardens offers tips for using native plants to attract butterflies and birds into your garden.
