Winfrey Point, the whimsical prairie land located on the east shore of White Rock Lake, is best known for its efforts not to become a parking lot. The nearby Dallas Arboretum would like to turn the prairie patch of wildflowers and grasses into a parking area. The neighborhood has rallied against the plans, however, and collected 8,000 signatures in opposition. The Dallas Park Department granted the arboretum temporary use of Winfrey Point for overflow parking from May to November 2012 — the arboretum's busy season. Besides using the prairie for parking, Winfrey Point visitors enjoy easy access to White Rock Lake and little league baseball fields.
