Avila's Mexican Restaurant

Avila's Mexican Restaurant, Dallas
Avila's Mexican Restaurant, Dallas

The colorful Avila family first opened Avila’s in 1986, but its roots date back to the grocery store that Anita and Octavio Avila ran in Little Mexico, where they’d make menudo and lengua on Sunday mornings. After decades of preparing northeastern and frontier Mexican-style food for their family, they opened the restaurant in a modest space on Maple Avenue. The children have carried on their parents’ tradition – under the oh-so-watchful eye of Anita – serving quesadillas with beef, chicken or spinach; tamales, tacos and gorditas; and carne asada and Mexican stew.
