Klyde Warren Park
|
Construction on Klyde Warren Park began in 2009 and is expected to be completed by fall 2012. The 5.2-acre park previously was a freeway overpass, and it was no small feat to convert the concrete structure into living, breathing green space. Lightweight soil minimizes the stress on the structure, and trees are planted in trenches to allow their roots to grow to a controlled length. The $106 million project was paid for with a combination of bond funds, federal dollars and private donations. The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation is still trying to raise an additional $4 million for operating costs.
The park will have a gastropub called Savor and Relish.
Klyde Warren Park offers 5 acres of shared green space in the middle of downtown Dallas.
