Romance City
Who knew this Dallas suburb was such a Valentine's Day hot spot?
A romantic Valentine's Day often comes with a hefty price tag. But lovebirds celebrating in Plano have it better than much of the country.
WalletHub delved into the economics behind the holiday to determine which of America's 100 largest cities are romantic and budget-friendly. Based on that criteria, Plano is the 11th best city for Valentine's Day.
In the romance department, Plano ranks No. 29 for Valentine's Day gift accessibility. It also has plenty of jewelry stores, specialty stores, florists, and chocolate shops, which make finding the perfect gift a breeze.
Plano residents might be a bit short on date ideas though, as the No. 68 ranking reflects the city's high number of restaurants and cafes, but fewer cultural attractions and nightlife destinations.
But Plano fares best in the Valentine's Day budget category. At No. 4, the local cost for meals, party admission, movie tickets, wine, and salon visits is lower than most other cities on the list.
Our poorest showing? No. 96 for weather. Which seems odd, as the forecast for February 14 currently reads cloudy with a high in the mid-60s. But we all know that could change in a heartbeat.
The best cities for Valentine's Day, according to WalletHub, are San Francisco; Scottsdale, Arizona; Honolulu; Orlando, Florida; and Seattle. Only one other Texas town made it onto the list: Austin, at No. 24.
