An online Dallas dating proposition turned fatal recently. Dallas police believe that Christopher Howard Beachum, 27, arranged a date with Gerald Canepa, 68, through Craigslist on March 15.
Three days later, Canepa was found strangled to death in his South Oak Cliff home in the 1400 block of South Montreal Avenue. Beachum, who was identified by his phone records and Craigslist account, is still at large.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Beachum was the last person to communicate with Canepa in person and by phone. The two exchanged an email at 12:29 am March 15. It would be the last one Canepa ever sent.
When police searched Canepa's home on March 18, his naked, lifeless body contained "what appeared to be multiple sharp force injuries." A television, two computers, two digital cameras and several DVDs were missing from the residence.
Police later traced the serial numbers on Canepa's digital cameras to a transaction at Value+ Pawnshop in North Dallas, where Beachum reportedly sold the items on March 18.
