North Dallas child shoots himself with grandfather's gun

A 4-year-old boy was rushed to Children's Hospital by careflight Wednesday night after shooting himself in the shoulder with his grandfather's gun. The accident occurred in the 8200 block of Campanella Drive in North Dallas.

According to police, the boy's injuries are not expected to be life-threatening. At the time of the shooting, the boy was alone in his grandfather's bedroom, where he found a gun underneath the pillow.

Meanwhile, the boy's mother was in a separate room of the house caring for an infant. The grandfather was also in the house. As is the case with all serious injuries to children, child abuse investigators have been assigned to the case. Police say no charges have been filed at this time.
