Armed robbery turns into murder at Oak Cliff gas station

A 40-year-old-man is dead and his wife injured after an armed robbery went from bad to worse in east Oak Cliff.

According to Dallas police, around 7:30 pm August 15 two black males approached Earnest Griffith Jr. and his wife at a gas station in the 3600 block of Sunnyvale Street. The armed men demanded money and the couple's 2002 Ford F-150 truck.

In the course of the robbery, the men shot Griffith in the head and his wife in the upper body. Griffith, who would have celebrated his 41st birthday on August 16, was pronounced dead at Baylor Hospital.

Police recovered the truck, which had been driven over a curb and crashed into a pile of brush, in the 2600 block of Marfa Avenue.
