5 best Dallas neighborhoods for Halloween tricks and treats

It's scary how well Texas cities rank among the best places for Halloween. Ahead of the spooky holiday, Zillow has released its annual list of the 20 best cities for trick-or-treating, and Dallas (No. 13) and Austin (No. 16) make the cut.

Zillow determined the best spots for young ghouls to score the most candy in the shortest amount of time by considering four variables: value of single-family homes, proximity of houses, number of young residents, and local crime rates.

"The national ranking is a fun way for trick-or-treaters and their parents across the country to assess how their city compares to others this Halloween season," said Zillow chief economist Dr. Svenja Gudell in a statement. "But what’s really important are the local hot spots, which is why we also identified the five best neighborhoods for trick-or-treating in each of the top cities."

Where should little Dallasites go for the most sweets on October 31? Northeast Dallas, North Dallas, Far North Dallas, M Streets, and Oak Lawn. Austin's top neighborhoods are Windsor Road, South Manchaca, Allandale, Rosedale, and Crestview.

Any way you look at it, North Texans have it made on Halloween. Another report from WalletHub says Plano (No. 8), Irving (No. 11), and Garland (No. 17) are among the top 20 cities for a hauntingly good time that won't frighten your wallet.
