Hellooooo Jerry
Jerry Seinfeld to make rare Dallas appearance at Winspear Opera House
Some comedians come and go. Then there are ones like Jerry Seinfeld, who have a staying power that would be enviable in any field, let alone a mercurial one like show business. Seinfeld's endurance will be on full display this summer when he puts on two shows at Winspear Opera House on June 8.
It may be hard to believe given the proliferation of reruns still running in syndication, but Seinfeld went off the air 15 years ago. The last episode aired May 14, 1998.
As that sitcom essentially set him up for life, he's taken on a kind of "comedian emeritus" role since then. Seinfeld pops up in a variety of cameos, writing and starring in the animated Bee Movie and hosting the short-lived The Marriage Ref on NBC.
His most high-profile gig since the end of Seinfeld was on the HBO show Curb Your Enthusiasm, which stars Larry David, who co-created Seinfeld. The season-long arc in season seven featured Seinfeld and co-stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards prepping and shooting a Seinfeld reunion show, something they've said they'll never do in real life.
Through it all, Seinfeld has continued to hone his stand-up skills. He averages close to 100 stand-up shows every year, although many of them are spur-of-the-moment appearances in New York comedy clubs or private events.
This will be Seinfeld's first Dallas show since May 2011.
