Drunk dialing Congress, Vanilla Ice goes Amish and more links we love

Editor's note: There's so much that's beautiful, funny, smart and informative on the Internet. Problem is, there's also a bunch of garbage. Here's the best of the web right now:

1. Express your government shutdown frustration to someone who counts with DrunkDialCongress.com. It's a pretty simple concept: "Mad at Congress over the shutdown? Have a drink and tell them." The site connects your phone to a real-life member of Congress — or, rather, the office of a real-life member of Congress. What you do (or drink) from there is up to you.

2. Vanilla Ice Goes Amish. What does a one-hit wonder do 20 years after he was relevant? Reality TV, of course. Robert Matthew Van Winkle — a.k.a. Vanilla Ice — has been making the TV show rounds for years now. He's rehabbed houses and lived in a Hollywood mansion with other washed-up celebs. Now he tries his hand at life on the farm.

3. New Barenaked Ladies video takes a light-hearted look at the stone-cold disasters on nightly newscasts everywhere. The Barenaked Ladies new single "Odds Are" is a pretty peppy take on the world today. Band members and personalities form Austin-based Rooster Teeth play a cheery news team. Clad in business casual, the stars sing about how relatively safe they are as zombies, meteors and hurricanes strike the earth.

4. Eleven mind-blowing facts that will completely change your perspective on the world. Okay, so maybe the Huffington Post oversells a bit with that headline. But if you don't learn at least one new thing from this list, you're probably a genius.

5. Oregon cheerleaders have custom Duck contact lenses. If you thought it was hard to take your eyes off the Oregon Duck cheerleaders before, just wait. In what looks like an early Halloween costume, the cheerleaders sport creepy contacts with variations of the team logo.

6. Put your neighbors jack-o-lantern to shame with a pop culture pumpkin. Anybody with a knife can fashion a traditional jack-o-lantern, but it takes a true artist and pop culture expert to create pumpkin carvings with panache. Everyone from Hello Kitty to Jimi Hendrix gets some holiday attention in this roundup from Mashable.
