Blown away
High winds knock out hopes of White Rock Lake Festival, which will try again in2013
If you were making plans to head out to the White Rock Lake Festival this weekend — and we were, since it was one of our top event picks this weekend — you'll need to find other entertainment. Organizers have canceled the event after high winds disrupted the set-up today and the forecast for the weekend showed only worsening weather conditions.
Organizer Mike Schoder of the Granada Theater says that winds on the lake were knocking over portable toilets and that the company providing the stage for the concerts was concerned the forecast for Saturday would put the event in peril. With rain expected to come through on Sunday, Schoder decided it would be best to cancel rather than risk any accidents.
"The wind was really howling ... when it comes across that entire lake from the south, it almost knocks a guitar out of your arms," Schoder says, adding that 25 mph winds could take the stage down.
The festival will look to reschedule at some point in 2013.
