In some ways, it might be best that the world ends on December 21. That way we can get out of all the Christmas shopping still left to do. As we touched on a few weeks ago, some companies are seeing the marketability in the end of the world.
We've got a few other things going on that should be worth checking out this week in the lead up to the Mayan Apocalypse.
Iron Cactus is unveiling its latest — and perhaps last — margarita. Appropriately named the Mayan, the drink is the brainchild of Iron Cactus mixologists led by co-owner Gary Manley.

The reasons why the Mayan is so peculiar are three-fold: It will only be available from December 17-20, it has gold flakes in it and it costs $100.

Now, let’s say that the world doesn’t end on December 21. It may seem crazy, I know. But if we’re all still here on December 22, then Iron Cactus will let anyone who drank the Mayan come back and have another one on the house.

Cafe Maya & Cantina in Oak Cliff is also hosting an end-of-the-world party complete with a complimentary buffet with traditional Mayan food. The DJ comes on at 7 pm to spin you into the darkness. (Or does the world end in light? We're not really sure.)
But before you go party until the world ends, check out the new South American eatery by Red Hot & Blue BBQ owner Craig Collins: Nazca Kitchen. Located at Walnut Hill Road and Central Expressway, Nazca opens Friday — a ballsy move, if you ask us — so you can enjoy your last meal with traditional comfort food from Peru, Brazil and Venezuela.
If you decide to quit your job and go out in style, PhD is offering $3 domestics and wells and $5 drafts and wine beginning at 11 am to keep you good and buzzed all day long. They've also got live music on the patio courtesy of Kathy Corbin of The Barefoot Hippies and Bella Estrada of Ciao Bella from 8 pm to midnight. Owner Eric Tcschetter promises they'll play R.E.M.'s "It's The End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" if you want some nostalgia in your doom.
Maybe the best way to go out is with a little hair on your chest. Goodfriend Beer Garden's "Hopocalypse" kicks off at 4 pm. To give you a feel for just how hoppy the beers will be for this thing, consider this: the lowest ABV of these dark brews is the Sixpoint Resin at 9.1 percent. Don't even look the Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA's 18 percent in the eyes. That is actually how the world ends. Deep Ellum Brewing Co. will have their Rye Imperial Stout, Darkest Hour, there and it's no lightweight at 11 percent. Cowboy up and a drink some real beers for a change.
