Get in bed with Timothy Oulton and his new Perpetual collection
A signature British flag from Timothy Oulton makes quite a design statement. But if your style is more subtle, you can bring a less-showy piece of Oulton’s luxury line into the house — in the bedroom, specifically.
Oulton just launched the Perpetual bedding collection, which includes a series of bed frames, headboards, mattresses, box springs and toppers. All of the headboards and frames match Oulton’s warm, industrial-chic style. But we were more curious about the mattresses.
Larry Button, Timothy Oulton global bedding consultant, told us that Oulton wanted to sleep in a bed that he made himself. So instead of going to longtime manufacturers, he sought out the finest craftsmen to create his own line of luxury beds.
The mattresses — named General, Brigadier, Colonel and Captain — are handmade by master craftsmen using all-natural materials. Think Mongolian horsehair, lambs wool, cashmere, silk and cotton. The process takes more than 150 hours. All mattresses come in soft, medium or firm, in a variety of dimensions.
Button says the collection is inspired by the perpetual motion machine; when you turn it once, it continues to turn on its own. He says that same continuous energy goes into the mattress via more than 7,000 springs. (The top-of-the-line General has even more.) This translates into a greater night’s sleep.
Every employee in the store is well-versed in the new line. They can tell if a soft mattress is better for your physique or if medium tension would better suit your sleep needs. You can also customize each side of the mattress according to your preferred firmness.
To make things even cozier, Oulton created a line of mattress toppers. Button explains that if a firm mattress is best for your body, a topper is the best way to get that soft, cushy feeling. Both the mattresses and toppers can be designed with any flag you desire.
So what’s the price for this kind of comfort? King-size sets (which include divan, mattress and topper) start at $11,795 and go up to $21,995. For a small taste of luxury, a king-size topper will set you back $2,395.
A Timothy Oulton mattress is guaranteed to hug you for 25 years, so consider it a long-term investment in good sleep. After all, who can put a price on that?
