If you like working for a small business, Dallas is the place to be
For those who prefer the employ of a small company, Texas is the right state to live in. WalletHub recently figured out the best cities in America to work for a small business, and three Lone Star spots are among the ranks: Dallas, Austin and Houston.
For its study, researchers looked at the small business environment in the 100 most populated U.S. metro areas to assess their friendliness toward employees and job seekers. Key metrics fell into two categories: small business environment, which defines what it's like to work in the average small business (defined as fewer than 250 employees), and economic environment, which analyzes what it's like to work in each city.
Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington takes the No. 8 spot overall. Employees here also enjoy good wages: Dallas has the fifth highest earnings for small business employees (adjusted for cost of living).
Austin-Round Rock ranks No. 4, and its workers are the third highest paid. The Houston metro area lands at No. 9 overall, but it leads the nation in earnings for small business employees.
The top three slots go to Charlotte, North Carolina; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
