Google Trends unearth truths about brands Texans love
Using keyword search popularity from Google Trends, which provides data for the history and volume of Google searches, Direct Capital has discovered the most popular brands in the nation. The finance company compiled the data in maps that break down the top three brands by state, providing a great deal of insight into consumer habits and preferences.
In Texas, we love, in this order, Facebook, Prego and Levi's.
Perhaps the Facebook thing isn't all the surprising, but consider this: The social media site isn't a top three brand anywhere else, according to Direct Capital's data.
The second most popular brand in Texas is pasta sauce purveyor Prego. Perhaps this is the result of Texans' reluctance to make sauce at home? Coming in third is Levi's, which isn't as unexpected, because Texans do love their American-made denim.
The top brands in many states were more or less what you'd expect. Washington-based Microsoft, Michigan's own Ford Motor Company and Maryland-based Under Armor garnered the No. 1 ranking for those states. Walmart claimed the top spot in Arkansas, while Disney topped Florida's list and KFC was the top brand in — you guessed it —Kentucky.
Some No. 1 brands that might leave you scratching your head include Skyy Vodka in Oklahoma, Grand Marnier in Delaware, Kleenex in South Dakota and Jose Cuervo in Arizona.
