UPDATE: As of 3:45 pm, DART's ticketing machines are once again accepting bank cards. As you were.

Who says Hurricane Sandy is only an East Coast problem? If you were planning to buy a DART ticket with your debit or credit card today, you should head to the ATM first. The machines are accepting only cash and fare enforcement will be in effect, spokesman Mark Ball confirmed.

"We have logged a high priority work order with FIS, our gateway provider for credit cards, and they are working to resolve the problem," Ball said in an email. "In conversations with FIS technicians, this problem could be related to severe weather on the East Coast."

Just before 7 am,  @kristinevaleria tweeted Dart Media and explained that she couldn't get a ticket at the Parker Road Station. At 7:55 am, DART sent out a rider alert about the system-wide malfunction. As of 2:30 pm, the machines were still not reading bank cards. Ball says the outage should be fixed today.
