A fall must-see: Chihuly glass and pumpkin patch at the Dallas Arboretum

Some say fall is the best season of the year in Dallas. As lower temperatures slowly blow in to town, we headed to the Dallas Arboretum for a seasonal blast: Chihuly Nights and Autumn at the Arboretum.

If it was possible to further highlight the internationally acclaimed Dale Chihuly glass sculpture exhibit, the Arboretum delivered. A ring of pumpkins ushers in the season.

The fall festival in is full swing with seasonal updates to the garden plantings and a nationally acclaimed Pumpkin Village filled with more than 50,000 Texas- and New Mexico-grown pumpkins and other gourd varietals.

The sunset reveals a spectacular view of the sculptures mingling with White Rock Lake.

Darkness brings the illumination of the sculptures and, for the first year, also the illumination of the pumpkin patch. There you can experience the magic of Cinderella's carriage — glass slippers optional.

We are delighted by the beauty available right in our backyard.

The Dallas Arboretum is open daily, 9 am-5 pm. Chihuly Nights occurs Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 6-10 pm. Sniff: Thursday Chihuly Nights, which include a concert, are sold out. But the Chihuly exhibit runs through November 5.

UPDATE: The Chihuly exhibit has been extended through December 31.
