DJ Haven Shuttered
Zubar on Greenville Avenue sent packing after lease disagreement
After 18 years, Zubar, one of the longer running and by-now-beloved bars on Greenville Avenue, will shut down on July 31, after a failure to come to terms on its lease. Owner Stephen Tenney informed customers that landlord Andres Properties ordered them to vacate the premises by July 31.
"Unfortunately, we could not agree on a long-term lease with our landlord, as we did not share the same collective vision for the future," Tenney said.
Greenville Avenue is in the thick of a massive overhaul, with the looming opening of Trader Joe's and a food truck park. New restaurants and bars have opened as of late, including HG Sply Co and Dallas Beer Kitchen.
Zubar is noted for being a cozy lounge featuring DJs more often found playing to huge crowds in abandoned warehouses. It has seen the neighborhood go through many up-and-down cycles.
"While there have certainly been challenges to owning Zubar over the last few years, we were all keenly interested in what positive things lie ahead for the Greenville area and only recently were we beginning to see the fruits of our labor," Tenney said. "To see that end so quickly is indeed devastating."
