The big news in food events is DFW Restaurant Week. Officially, it's August 11-17. But it might as well be called DFW Restaurant Month, with all the previews and extensions.

Reservations at the best restaurants fill up fast, but with a lengthy list of 130 or so participants all over Dallas-Fort Worth, you are bound to get in somewhere. If not this week, then perhaps the next. Or the next.

As for the rest of this week's food and drink events, there are some wine dinners and a beer-fueled fundraiser at Trinity Groves.

Tuesday, August 12

Backpacks for Brews at 3015 @ Trinity Groves
Join the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas in doing good while feeling good. Bring a new backpack to fill with school supplies for children from Family Compass, a nonprofit that prevents child abuse and neglect. In return, you get good food and craft beer courtesy of Four Corners Brewing Company. Space is limited, and you can register online. The event runs from 5:30-7:30 pm.

Fisher Wine Dinner at Gemma Restaurant
Chef and owner Stephen Rogers welcomes Cameron Fisher from Fisher Vineyards for a dinner featuring selections from the winery. Passed hors d'oeuvre start at 6:30 pm, with courses such as diver scallops, maitake mushroom flan, Moroccan spiced lamb chops and Valrhona chocolate cake to follow. The meal costs $125 per person, and reservations can be made by calling 214-370-9426 or emailing reservations@gemmadallas.com.

Wednesday, August 13
