What: Day at the Races
Where: Arlington Hall
The 411: About 500 guests donned their Kentucky Derby best — including over-the-top hats — for the 10th annual event hosted by The Conservancy on May 5. Honorary chairs for 2018 were Lucian LaBarba and his nephew, Gianni LaBarba, while Otis Felton served as community chair, and Lauren Ives and Sean March were junior co-chairs. The yearly event — one of the highlights of the Dallas young professionals' social calendar — benefits the beautification, maintenance and development of Arlington Hall and the Oak Lawn Park.
Attendees sipped Woodford Reserve mint juleps and noshed on Southern cuisine while playing nostalgic lawn games in the Formal Gardens, bidding on fabulous items in a silent auction, and participating in a reverse raffle and dine-around gift card pull.
At exactly 5:34 pm, patrons gathered around screens to watch and cheer on the most exciting two minutes in sports, The Kentucky Derby. Following the 144th Run for the Roses, a live auction continued the spirit of competition.
Then the popular Georgia Bridgewater Orchestra got guests on their feet and moving on the dance floor.
“It’s a pleasure to host this fabulous event each year, and as we celebrated our 10th anniversary, it was more successful than ever,” Gay Donnell, president and CEO of The Conservancy, says in a release. “Day at the Races truly showcases the beauty and sophistication of Oak Lawn Park and Arlington Hall, and we love seeing guests get creative with their Derby-inspired ensembles and come together in this gorgeous setting.”
Some ladies and gents took home an extra prize from the event — an award for Best Dressed and Best Hat. Winners were Patrick Esquirre (Best Dressed Man), Kadi Eycamp (Best Dressed Woman), Teffy Jacobs (Best Hat), and Shannon and Jeff Showah (Best Dressed Couple).
