Young professionals tap cold beer for a good cause at popular Dallas bar
What: JDRF Young Leadership Committee's Brew the Cure
Where: Henderson Tap House
The 411: More than 100 young professionals gathered for cold beer on a hot Saturday afternoon, all for a good cause — to raise money in support of JDRF Young Leadership Committee's mission to help cure, treat and prevent type-1 diabetes. Co-chaired by Katie Chorley and Caitlin Simms, the sixth annual event took place in a reserved section of the tap house, where patrons could mingle, sip, and nosh from a small buffet of bar bites and cupcakes from Bird Bakery.
An impressive silent auction collection spread out over multiple tables and bar tops included dozens of fabulous items from local retailers and beyond. Jewelry, sports tickets, performing arts vouchers, spa days, restaurant gift certificates, and even hiking gear was up for grabs. Patrons kept an eye on their bids and rushed back frequently as closing time approached.
When the beer pong tournament started, the party really got lively. Partygoers — including special guests Tanya Conovaloff, JDRF Greater Dallas outreach manager, and Melissa Pinkerton, JDRF Greater Dallas development manager — either took turns pinging balls across the tables or gathering around to watch.
When it was time to pay for auction items and head home, everyone got to grab a swag bag stuffed with T-shirts, retail coupons, koozies, snacks, and more.
In all, the event brought in just over $14,000, raising Brew the Cure's total to $94,000 over the past six years.
The Young Leadership Committee supports the Dallas chapter of JDRF, the leading global organization focused on type-1 diabetes research. JDRF helps advocate for government support of research and new therapies, and connects and engages the diabetes community.
