Candlelight and Cat in the Hat
Cabaret Gala treats Dallas Children's Theater fans to surprises and show stoppers
Dallas Children’s Theater presented its glamorous 21st annual Cabaret Gala at the Fairmont Dallas to celebrate the transformational experience of theater and its effect on the lives of young people in our community.
During pre-show cocktails, a surprise visitor arrived that quickly reminded attendees what organization they were gathered to celebrate: Cat in the Hat, from the iconic, critically acclaimed show now playing at DCT’s Rosewood Center for Family Arts. And that was only the start of the excitement.
The intimate, candlelit Venetian Room was an apropos setting to experience one of New York City's leading cabaret performers, Carole J. Bufford. The New York Times describes her as "sizzling, dangerous and funny." Making her Dallas debut, this young, sexy chanteuse was a true show stopper.
Along with the impressive performance from the 2013 New York Nightlife Award winner, the raffle was a hit with supporters. Emily Jefferson walked away with an amazing prize package: a trip for two to New York City with air transportation, deluxe accommodations at The Carlyle, and two tickets to the smash Broadway show Kinky Boots starring Dallas’ own Stark Sands.
Leading the charge as gala co-chairs were community treasures Yvonne Crum and Marisa Huckin, who welcomed supporters such as Don Miller, Martha Wyly Miller, Maggie Kipp, Lauren Mathews, Karen and Ken Travis, Valerie and Lewis McMahan, Andy Smith, Paul Von Wupperfeld, Pamela and Dave Work, , and Wendy and Mike Gibson.
The mission of the Dallas Children's Theater is to inspire young people to live creative and productive lives through the art of theater.
