Dallas notables gather to honor developer and Arts District visionary Lucy Billingsley
More than 800 Dallas notables gathered at the Hilton Anatole to help the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth honor Dallas developer and humanitarian Lucy Billingsley at its 2013 H. Neil Mallon Award winner. The Mallon Award recognizes the recipient's contributions to the region's international reputation.
Billingsley took on the reimagining of the Dallas Arts District through the development of One and Two Arts Plaza. If that's not why the name sounds familiar, perhaps it's her relation to legendary developer Trammell Crow Sr., her father.
In addition to honoring Billingsley, guests — including Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price, Matrice and Ron Kirk, Kay Bailey Hutchison, and Jim Falk— got a chance to hear from the event’s keynote speaker, veteran National Geographic writer and photographer Joel Sartore. He is renowned for his conservation efforts and for photographing endangered species, including many currently under the protection of the Fort Worth Zoo and the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler.
The H. Neil Mallon Award is named for the late chairman of Dresser Industries who founded the Dallas World Affairs Council in 1951. Previous Mallon Award recipients include Ross Perot and Ross Perot Jr., Ebby Halliday-Acers, George H.W. Bush, Ray L. Hunt, and Trammell Crow.
