Nexus Recovery Center throws haute house party for big-deal fundraising kickoff
More than 90 guests braved the fall showers to attend the 2013/2014 Nexus Annual Fund Appeal kickoff at the lovely Preston Hollow estate of Debbie and Michael Thompson.
This great group of service-minded people — including Candice Romo, Kristy and Steve Schenkel, Leigh Bailey, Vincent Carrizales, — came together to begin their goal of raising $200,000 in two weeks for Nexus Recovery Center in honor of Peggy Thompson, who passed away earlier this year.
Peggy was a founding member of the Nexus auxiliary board and had a true passion for helping people in her community. The auxiliary is now 17 years strong and carries on her pursuits to help the women of Nexus who want to break the bonds of addiction. Peggy and Jere Sr. had seven children, including Michael and Jere Jr., who have been dedicated to making this fundraising goal a reality.
To launch this grand effort, the brothers handed a $30,000 check to the executive director of Nexus Recovery Center during the evening's announcements. Donations are also being accepted online.
