In a day and age when flying has become increasingly stressful, United Airlines is bringing back a perk passengers once took for granted. Beginning February 2016, the airline will serve free snacks in economy class on flights within North America and Latin America.
Customers on flights departing before 9:45 am will be served a morning stroopwafel, a Dutch caramel-filled waffle that goes well with coffee or tea. On flights departing after 9:45 am, passengers will receive a package of savory snacks, such as an Asian-style snack mix of rice crackers, sesame sticks, and wasabi peas or a ranch mix of mini pretzel sticks, Cajun corn sticks, and ranch soy nuts.
The airline will continue to offer free soft drinks and coffee. Beginning next summer, the airline will serve Illy’s signature scuro dark roast coffee on flights. The Italian brand will be served at United Clubs beginning this month.
“We’re refocusing on the big and little things that we know matter to our customers and shape how they feel about their travel experience,” Jimmy Samartzis, United’s vice president of food services and United Clubs, said in a statement. “We’re bringing back complimentary snacks that are a nod to our global presence. They also add that extra level of service our employees will be proud to deliver and will make a big difference for our customers.”
For those who want a little more sustenance, United will continue to offer Choice Menu items for purchase on flights that currently offer these options.
