This Week in Gluttony has a hearty list of food events, from the grand opening of a new Thai restaurant to a St. Patrick’s Day-themed cooking class at Pirch. You like beer and wine? We have those too. So prepare to indulge.

    Tuesday, March 10

Kin Kin Urban Thai Grand Opening Celebration
Chef Eddy Thretipthuangsin’s new Thai place is now open to the public. The restaurant is only offering dinner until March 13, at which time lunch service begins. To celebrate the opening, guests can enjoy all food at 50 percent off normal menu pricing simply by checking in on the restaurant’s social media accounts, including Facebook and Instagram, until March 12.

Lakewood Brewing Artisan Beer Dinner at CBD Provisions
CBD Provisions and Lakewood Brewing Company are teaming up to celebrate the best of modern Texas fare and award-winning craft brews. Beer such as Lakewood’s La Dame Du Lac, Biere de Garde and strong pale ale are paired with a selection of house-made provisions, including fresh cheese, sausages and smoked fish. Reservations are required; call 214-261-4500. Tickets are $65, and dinner begins at 6 pm.

Rachel Gaffney’s St. Patrick’s Day Class at Pirch
Rachel Gaffney visits Dallas’ most beautiful home appliance store to share Irish history and cooking methods in this interactive class. Bring your own wine to the event, which starts at 6 pm. Cost is $60, and you must purchase them in advance.

    World of Whiskey at Bolsa
Not too many details about this Beam Suntory whiskey dinner, but here’s what we know: Attendees get four courses by Joel Harrington paired with four cocktails by Kyle Hilla. Tickets are $55, and the dinner starts at 6 pm. Call 214-367-9367 for reservations.

    Wednesday, March 13

Macallan Scotch Dinner at Texas de Brazil
Sample different ranges of this well-known single malt whiskey and learn about the history of The Macallan. The evening ends with endless meats and salad like any good meal at Texas de Brazil should. Attendees can choose from a 50-item salad area, as well as various cuts of beef, lamb, pork, chicken and sausage. Everyone gets a mini slice of pecan pie. Tickets are $89.99 a person, and the dinner starts at 7:30 pm. RSVP to fabianasoares@texasdebrazil.com.

    Friday, March 13

Nebbiolo vs Pinot Noir Wine Tasting at Pappas Bros. Steakhouse
Explore wines from the old and new worlds from these classic grapes. The tasting includes wines from Sonoma Coast, California; Willamette Valley, Oregon; Piedmont, Italy; Burgundy, France; Russian River Valley, California; Santa Maria Valley, California; and Rutherford, California. Note: This is not a wine dinner. The event costs $65, and it starts at 6:30 pm. Call 214-366-2000 to reserve your spot.

    Sunday, March 15

Dallas Green Alliance presents Gather for Common Ground at Casa Stellina
The Dallas Green Alliance, a political action committee (PAC) created to provide campaign funds and support for environmentally friendly Dallas City Council candidates, hosts a festive evening of cuisine and conversation. Chefs on hand to support the efforts of the PAC and celebrate locally driven foods are Graham Dodds of Hibiscus, Mark Wootton of Garden Cafe and David Temple of Restaurant 27. Enjoy delicious local food and inspiring conversation with keynote speaker Angela Hunt, an outspoken opponent of the Trinity toll road. Tickets are $50, and the event stars at 4 pm.

    Monday, March 16

Don't miss the momos at new Frisco restaurant Himalayan Indian Spice

    Himalayan Indian Spice
Who could resist the food or atmosphere at Himalayan Indian Spice.

An upscale new restaurant in Frisco is serving classic Indian dishes alongside Nepalese-style dumplings: Called Himalayan Indian Spice, it opened this summer at 13223 Dallas Pkwy. #200, in a prime location across the Tollway from the coming-soon Universal Kids Resort.

Owner Santosh Neupane is a hospitality veteran who also owns Himalayan Hub Indian Spice and Momo House, in nearby Melissa. At both restaurants, his goal is to feature the Nepalese dishes he grew up with, and to serve them in a nice upscale setting.

Himalayan shines both in food and atmosphere, with a menu that incorporates Nepalese trademarks including momos — dumplings in nearly a dozen varieties, usually steamed, sometimes fried; filled with vegetables or chicken; and served with different soupy-style sauces such as jhol momo, a spicy, tangy, and nutty broth.

Other traditional Nepalese dishes offered include

    • duck choila, Nepali-style grilled duck, known for its bold flavors of ginger and garlic
    • chicken sekuwa — a Nepali street food consisting of chicken skewers marinated in Himalayan herbs and spices
    • bhuteko bhat — spiced fried rice, a beloved, homey Nepali dish that everyone's grandmother makes

They also serve Indian classics such as butter chicken, tandoori chicken, and chicken tikka masala. There are multiple varieties of naan, the irresistible chewy bread, and their vegetarian options are vast, including palak paneer, baingan bharta, a Punjabi-style eggplant mash, bhindi do pyaza — an okra dish simmered with onion and tomato, and black or yellow lentil dal.

Prices are affordable, ranging from $14 to $18.

Leading up to the opening, Neupane brought in Santosh Shaas, a MasterChef runner-up in 2020 in the UK and a veteran chef in London, who helped shape the menu and train staff, to guarantee authenticity and quality.

Prior to opening his own restaurants, Neupane worked for the Four Seasons hotel chain, both in Las Colinas and in California, and that informed much of the discipline, design, and style in the restaurant, from the décor to the way dishes are served.

“My goal was to open a nice, luxury spot, replicating the vibes of high cuisine," he says.

The space sits about 50 and is elegant, with chandeliers, brass accents, and chic gray seating with orange accents. Service is attentive and friendly, with staffers happy to walk diners through the nuances of the menu.

They've received a warm reception both from the Nepalese community as well as residents from the neighborhood.

"So far, so good," Neupane says. "Everyone loves to try new things."

They're still waiting for their liquor license, so the restaurant is currently BYOB. Now is the time to bring a bottle of wine or cold beer from the cellar and get down with some momos.
