Best-selling author Emily Giffin breaks from book tour for Chick Lit reunion in Dallas
Best-selling author and 2011 Chick Lit Luncheon speaker Emily Giffin took a night off during her recent book tour to catch up with old friends from Community Partners of Dallas. Giffin’s new tome, The One & Only, is set in the fictitious town of Walker, Texas, but it has Dallas written all over it.
Southern Methodist University football served as Giffin’s inspiration, but the author also weaved her pals Sandy and Barry Moore — longtime CPD supporters who hosted the gathering — into the storyline. The big surprise for CPD fans comes on page 326 when one of Giffin’s characters mentions donating Dallas Cowboys items to “Community Partners of Dallas, a charity for abused children.”
During the party, attendees sipped wine while waiting for Giffin to sign copies of her new book, which also were available for purchase. The personable writer chatted and posed for photos throughout the night to the delight of guests, including Rogers Healy, Paige McDaniel, Lara Tafel, Maggie Kipp, Liana Yarckin, Ellen Smith, Nikki Webb and Carrie Ford.
Since 1989, Community Partners of Dallas has ensured safety and restored dignity and hope to abused and neglected children by providing crucial resources and support to the caseworkers of Dallas County Child Protective Services.
