Art enthusiasts, music aficionados and beach-starved babes gathered at the Design District Market — the first at the Dallas Contemporary — for an an all-day shopping and swimming extravaganza presented by the Contemporary, Jim Lake Companies and the Dallas Design District.
Local artists and retailers lined up inside and outside the museum, creating a scene similar to Istanbul's Grand Bazaar. But instead of noshing on dolmas and kebobs, market-goers — including Christi and Eric Austin, Steve Krebaum, Paul Rook, Kelsey Conklin, Carlos Canlas, Monica Abbracciamengo, Javier Burkle, Ashley Ferguson, and Megan Tvrdik — sated themselves at the Parrot Ice and Easy Slider food trucks while browsing goods from Wooden House, Hari Mari, Elements and 80 other shops.
Although two large graffiti-clad dumpsters pools were the highlight for some, others needed a couple of cocktails before taking a dip. But, by the end of the day, oodles of sun-kissed devotees were found schmoozing and splashing in the water.
When not splashing or shopping, attendees listened to tunes from Dallas-Fort Worth bands The Effianys, Birds of Night, Ronnie Hart and Robbie Saunders and goofed off in the Longhorn Photobooth sponsored by CultureMap.
Funds raised from booth sales and underwriters benefited the Dallas Contemporary's art exhibitions and programs.
Once warmed up, guests splashed in the dumpster pools.
