Nearly 1,000 glam guests descended on the Dallas Arboretum to celebrate the opening of the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden, the most thrilling new go-to destination for Dallas families.
The evening began with cocktails on the terrace and was followed by a seated dinner in Rosine Hall, where guests enjoyed an elegant meal and caught up with fellow green thumbs and supporters of the arboretum.
The naming gift was provided by Howard Meyers and his sons in honor of his wife and their mother, Rory Meyers, a well-known civic leader, community volunteer, and longtime member of the arboretum board and chair of the education committee.
Joining the Meyers family and gala co-chairs Judy Gibbs and Sandra Estess were Diane and Hal Brierley, Caroline Rose Hunt, Linda Evans, Margaret McDermott, Skye and Bill Brewer, Brent Christopher, and Susie and Leo Corrigan.
This wasn't any ordinary gala, so of course there were bound to be some unique surprises. Entertainment for the evening was a real treat, as the Texas Winds Musical Outreach, the Garland Independent School District fifth grade children’s choir, and Annie Hickman’s Rainforest Creatures and Dancers took turns performing.
“Although the weather prevented us from having the Children’s Gala in the garden, it was a wonderful celebration to honor the Meyers family and all the donors who have helped us build the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden,” said Mary Brinegar, president and CEO of the Dallas Arboretum.
“This 8-acre interactive was designed to address state and national standards in life and earth sciences and to help the next generation learn about science and nature in nature.”
The Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden is open 9 am-5 pm daily. All proceeds from the gala benefited the arboretum, which Dallas can proudly claim as one of the leading botanic gardens in the world.
