Instead of champagne and fireworks, Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center will be ringing in the new year by providing a calming atmosphere for their shelter pets. The booming sounds of fireworks can be stressful and frightening for animals, which is why they're inviting the public to come read, sing, or play a soothing instrument to muffle the noise on New Year’s Eve.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own books, folding chairs, or yoga mats to sit and read to the animals. A brief safety orientation will be held at the start of the event. Dallas Animal Services will provide treats to pass out to the animals, but donations are also welcome.
