Dallas Arts District will present the annual Changing Perspectives Block Party: A Cultural Festival, featuring the Brooklyn Jumbies, Afro-Caribbean stilts dancers with Dallas’ Bandan Koro African Drum and Dance Ensemble. Their focal piece, Intervention Ocean Blues, is a work inspired by all forms of life that make the ocean their home. It is a reminder to the crisis impacting the life of the ocean and draws attention to the urgent need to elevate and change the values and practices of private industry, policy, and own personal choices. The performance combines dance, procession, textile sculpture, ritual, and improvisational interactions with the audience.
The event will also feature family-friendly activities including bubble sculptures, a photo booth, community art project, Artisans + Makers, with gourmet food truck fare. DAD will collaborate with Dallas ISD schools to bring students to Sammons Park for an open rehearsal with the Brooklyn Jumbies discussing our collective responsibility to the environment.
