The Chairs is a rarely performed absurdist play of the first order by Eugene Ionesco. The play takes place in a house on an island where a very old couple pass their time with private games and half-remembered stories. That may sound bland, but in Ionesco's hands, the play bristles with eccentricity and human folly.
