Theatre Arlington presents Tim Firth’s Calendar Girls, adapted from the 2003 movie based on a true story. This humorous and heartwarming play follows Annie Baker and a group of courageous British WI members who resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room after Annie’s husband, John, dies of leukemia.
Their fundraiser does not consist of fancy galas or bake sales; rather, they choose to face their grief and anger with humor and daring, deciding to create an “alternative” calendar. With the help from a hospital porter and amateur photographer, these bold ladies pose nude and expose themselves to more fame and success than they imagined. Although this exposure also tests the limits of their friendships, their unique philanthropic journey leads them all (and the audience) to discover all women are beautiful – inside and out.
