The music of Ravel’s Bolero uses South African a cappella voices as a musical device to create the incredibly powerful score. A cathartic, yet uplifting and remarkable, work, CION: Requiem of Ravel’s Bolero is a hauntingly beautiful and moving exploration of grief, struggle and relief. A requiem that awakens the connection to the departed souls. Cion: Requiem of Ravel’s Boléro draws inspiration from creations by two artists: the character Toloki in South African author Zakes Mda’s novels Cion and Ways of Dying and music from French composer Maurice Ravel’s Boléro.
