Angry Dog sure has defied the odds. This cooler-than-cool burger joint opened in 1991, back when Deep Ellum was entering its music-scene heyday. Then came the lull, and yet Angry Dog endured. Now it's there for the revival: still the same urban feel, tin ceiling and friendly bartenders. Though named for its hot dog dripping with chili and cheese, Angry Dog is better known for its thick and hefty burger, which has won many best-in-Dallas awards. The menu also offers bar food like wings and nachos, plus sandwiches such as the Angry Tuna, and even a decent chicken soup. Beer selection includes local brews, and a good jukebox and TVs over the bar bolster the fun atmosphere. The restrooms, lined with kitschy photos from the swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated and/or posters of boy bands, are a gas.
Street parking is free during the day.
