Komali opened in 2011 as a temple to the Mexico City-style food chef-owner Abraham Salum knew growing up. In 2016, Salum handed over the reins to new owner Emanuel Salinas, a native of Mexico City and former resident of Acapulco. He's expanded the menu to incorporate all of Mexico's regions, including seafood and ceviches, assisted by chef Geovanny "Geo" Arredondo, who has been at Komali for two years, and veteran bartender Leann Berry, who still shakes a mean tamarind margarita.
